The Liberation of St. Peter by Sybil A. Bissell

This acrylic painting is "In Study of" Jose Antonilez, a Spanish painter of the 1800's. The original painting has a home at the National Gallery of Ireland, who so graciously allowed me a copy of the original, as an art student, so that I could do this painting. Jose Antonilez is a little known Spanish painter who seemed not to paint all that many pictures. Of all of the "Liberation of St. Peter" paintings I've seen, this is the one that moved me and put tears in my eyes. It captivated me.

This is my most recently finished painting. It is my 20th acrylic painting.

I saw a piece of metal wall art in a store and felt inspired to paint myself something similar. The original is mostly done with iridescent metallic paint which makes it shimmer.

"Jesus the Word" is an acrylic painting by Sybil A. Bissell based on a 7th century Icon from St. Catherine's Monastery in the Sinai Desert. The image is known in the Orthodox church as The Pantokrator (Pantocrator). It is an image of Jesus demonstrating the sign of the Trinity with his hands (Father, Son, Holy Spirit, the three in persons, two natures, as one.) Completed March 2009

My father hunted moose every winter up in Northern Alberta and that was our main food source. I recall one year he brought home a bear to eat for the winter. I have it's hide hanging in my house. For some reason my husband and I have a fascination with moose and love to buy moose ornaments. Of course, we had to have a moose picture in our house. This one I did in soft pastels but the image here has been tinted darker in Photoshop.

I had this image in my mind, a Bird of Paradise bird staring down a Bird of Paradise flower. This was my first ever experience using soft pastels.

Lord of the Strings Designs

In addition to my paintings and sketches, I designed (Trademarked and Copyrighted too) this "Lord of the Strings" & "Lady of the Strings" design. In this design, the letter "D" is substituted for various stringed musical instruments (guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, harp, sitar, cello, violin and dulcimer) and stringed sports equipment (tennis, racquetball, badminton and lacrosse). I'm very thankful for the young woman and her baby who posed for this sketch. She answered an ad I put on Craigslist and her husband took the photo at their home and e-mailed it to me. She was able to do the pose with her baby that I really wanted to sketch. I wanted to convey the love in a mother's heart for her baby.

This picture was painted as a special gift to my niece. I asked her what her favoriate flower was, hydrangea. I asked her what her favorite color was, purple. This was my first attempt to paint flowers. The leaves are the best part of this painting, take a close look. My teacher showed me how to make the leaves look 3D.
